Sokhiev conducts Mussorgsky

Despite the cancellation of concerts due to the Corona shutdown the DSO is still there for its audience: Over the next few days and weeks we will regularly post video streams of selected concerts and opera productions on our website.

Streaming from June 12 to 19, the DSO in cooperation with rbb and ARTE Concerts presents a 2016 concert with Tugan Sokhiev, conducting Mussorgsky’s ›Pictures at an Exhibition‹.

More Radio Concerts on June 14, 17 and 26

The DSO continues its live radio concerts on rbbKultur and Deutschlandfunk Kultur with chamber orchestra line-ups. David Afkham conducts a programme of works by Debussy, Haydn and Wagner on 14 June, featuring Saleem Ashkar as soloist in Mozart's D Minor Piano Concerto KV 466. Cornelius Meister conducts a concert on 17 June with music by Haydn, Mozart and Messiaen. Finally, Antonello Manacorda conducts music by Mozart, Schoenberg and Strauss on 26 June.

Radio Concerts in June

The DSO continues its live concerts on the radio: On June 7th the orchestra can be heard in a larger line-up for the first time since the corona-related contact restrictions! Starting at 8.04 pm, rbbKultur will broadcast an exciting concert programme with music from the Romantic period to the present from the Großer Sendesaal in the Haus des Rundfunks.
 
On Tuesday, June 9, a chamber concert with former participants of the series ›Debut on Deutschlandfunk Kultur‹ will follow. Further live radio concerts are planned for 14, 17 and 26 June.

Robin Ticciati’s Inaugural Concert

Despite the cancellation of concerts due to the Corona shutdown the DSO is still there for its audience: Over the next few days and weeks we will regularly post video streams of selected concerts and opera productions on our website.

Streaming from June 5 to June 12, the DSO in cooperation with rbb and ARTE Concerts presents Robin Ticciati’s Inaugural Concert, recorded live on 26 September 2017. On the programme: Jean-Féry Rebel’s ›Les éléments‹, Thomas Larcher’s symphony Nr. 2 ›Kenotaph‹ and ›Also sprach Zarathustra‹ by Richard Strauss.

Streaming from May 29 to June 5, the DSO in cooperation with hr and ARTE Concerts presents a 2014 concert with Tugan Sokhiev, conducting prokofiev’s seventh symphony.

In an exclusive cooperation with Naxos the DSO presents Benjamin Britten’s opera ›Owen Wingrave‹, streaming between Fri 22 and Fri 29 May – a 2001 Channel 4 British television production featuring Anne Dawson, Gerald Finley and Peter Savidge. Kent Nagano conducts the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin.

Whitsuntide weekend: The DSO by land, sea and air

With the claim "Berlin braucht Musik" (Berlin needs music) the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin was spreading out over the Whitsuntide weekend to bring music to the capital. On land, on water and in the air DSO’s chamber music ensembles could be heard in various formations all over Berlin – near social institutions, in public places and along the river. In times of closed concert halls and cultural institutions, the orchestra, in cooperation with the Bürgerstiftung Berlin and the Kulturfluss e. V., expresses the conviction that the experience of live music is not a luxury, but the fulfilment of an existential human need.

Sokhiev conducts Glinka, Tanejew und Berlioz

Streaming from May 15 to 22, the DSO in cooperation with hr and ARTE Concerts presents a 2013 concert with Tugan Sokhiev, the DSO and RIAS Kammerchor Berlin. On the programme: The cantata ›Johannes Damascenus‹ by Tchaikovsky student Sergei Tanejew, Michail Glinka’s ›Valse-fantaisie‹ and Hector Berlioz’ ›Symphonie fantastique‹.

DSO Ensembles and Musicians

Live radio concerts on May 21 and 24

The DSO continues its live concerts on the radio. On May 21, DSO ensembles will perform music by Arnold, Glinka, Mozart and Poulenc as well as a world premiere by Simon Laks at the Jesus Christ Church in Berlin-Dahlem, broadcast live on Deutschlandfunk Kultur.

Another concert with DSO members will take place on May 24, broadcast by rbbKultur from the Haus des Rundfunks. In addition to chamber music masterpieces by Arensky, Dvořák, Mozart and Rossini, the programme includes Brahms' Piano Quintet, featuring renowned pianist Kirill Gerstein as a guest.

Concerts until July 31st cancelled

We are very sorry to let you know that all DSO concerts until 31 July 2020 have been cancelled in accordance with the decision of the Senator for Culture and Europe, Dr. Klaus Lederer, that the planned events in the state theaters, operas and concert halls of Berlin until the end of the season cannot take place due to the Corona virus.
