Festival for New Music

Since 1999, the annual series of festivals for new music in Germany begins with the ‘Ultraschall Berlin’ festival, organised by kulturradio vom rbb and Deutschlandfunk Kultur. As has become the custom, the festival presents premieres, German premieres and works of the recent past, as well as avant-garde classics. ‘Ultraschall Berlin’ aggregates the heterogeneous, the iridescent and multi-coloured nature of contemporary music. Free of constraints to be topical and to stage premieres, the festival presents essential developments shaping contemporary music, and takes a fresh look at works of the recent past with their many associations, shedding new light on selected works in a changed context.

Traditionally, as well as this year, the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin is an important partner of Ultraschall Berlin. In 2025, they will perform the opening and closing concerts.

The DSO will continue its Musik der Gegenwart (‘Music of the Present Day’) concert series, which is rich in tradition, in the scope of the ‘Ultraschall Berlin’ festival.
