Dalia Stasevksa & Jess Gillam 7 Dez 25

On Sunday, 7 December, conductor Dalia Stasevska returned to the podium of the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin (DSO). The evening's programme centred on Anna Clyne's concerto for soprano saxophone and orchestra, Glasslands. In addition to Ravel's Boléro, Stasevska also conducted William L. Dawson's Negro Folk Symphony* as the focus work in the season's thematic series Afrodiaspora – Composing While Black. On the afternoon before the concert, an accompanying symposium was held in cooperation with the State Institute for Music Research (SIM), in which renowned experts from academia and practice opened up new perspectives on Afro-diasporic classical music → dso-berlin.de/symposium.

* The title was chosen by the Black composer William L. Dawson and is retained out of respect for the historical work, even though it is considered outdated and discriminatory.
