Zum Konzert

She lived to be just twenty-four – and in the face of death she put perhaps her most impressive work to paper: ›D’un soir triste‹. Tender and agonizing laments flow through the orchestral sound with which she quietly bid farewell to the world. By contrast, her psalm ›Du fond de l’abîme‹ still yearned for hope – for health, for an end to World War I. With the spiritual poetry of the Tanakh or Old Testament, Igor Stravinsky’s ›Symphony of Psalms‹ also reaches out for a distant paradise that Leonard Bernstein appears to have found in the present with his life-affirming ›Chichester Psalms‹ of the mid-1960s.
