Musikfest Berlin 16.09.2026

On Wednesday 16 September, the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin (DSO) opened its 2026/2027 season as part of the Musikfest Berlin. Together with conductor Simone Young and pianist Francesco Piemontesi, the orchestra performed Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5, having previously presented a programme ranging from Britten’s ›Four Sea Interludes‹ to Mahler’s Adagio from his Tenth Symphony and Liza Lim’s piece ›Sappho/ Bioluminescence‹. The evening began with a speech by Michel Friedman, who spoke powerfully about the season’s theme, ›Ach, Mensch‹, and the challenges of our time.
