Musikfest Berlin 04.09.2025

On Thursday, 4 September, the DSO opened its 2025/2026 season under the baton of Anja Bihlmaier as part of the Musikfest Berlin. The programme ranged from Shostakovich’s Ninth Symphony to Bernd Alois Zimmermann’s ballet music for ›Roi Ubu‹ to ›Shango Memory‹ by African American composer Olly Wilson – a work with which the DSO introduced this year’s season focus, ›Afrodiaspora – Composing While Black‹. Cellist Kian Soltani performed as soloist in Tchaikovsky’s ›Rococo Variations‹. The DSO had already presented this programme at the Beethovenfest Bonn on Sunday, 31 August.
