Concert ‘Peace on Earth’ 01./02.02.2025

As part of the ‘Orchestra for Democracy’ campaign and under the heading ‘Peace on Earth’, the DSO Berlin and the Rundfunkchor Berlin invited to two concerts in the Philharmonie Berlin on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 February 2025, which combined music and language to make a strong plea for humanity. Under the direction of Andrés Orozco-Estrada, the programme included compositions by Lili Boulanger, Johannes Brahms and Arnold Schönberg as well as Richard Strauss’ iconic tone poem “Also sprach Zarathustra”, based on Nietzsche’s magnum opus of the same name. Iris Berben recited a selection of texts from the work as well as critical responses by philosopher Andreas Urs Sommer. In addition, Michel Friedman gave a moving speech on the value of freedom and democracy. Photos: © Marlene Pfau
