About the programme

The DSO, Music Director Robin Ticciati, and pianist legend Emanuel Ax treat the audience to a Viennese mélange par excellence at the end of the season. With a Sinfonia by Marianna von Martines, who took piano lessons from the young Haydn and later also welcomed Mozart to her salon. With the latter’s late, great Piano Concerto in C major. And with Haydn’s last of his ›London Symphonies‹, which brought him world fame far from home. The First Viennese School – for Ticciati that also means playing on gut strings. With their warm, powerful timbre, which is much more multifaceted than that of modern steel strings, he brings the tone colours and musical  worlds of the late 18th century to life in an impressive manner.
