Zum Konzert

To grasp the horror that he suffered under Soviet rule, Dmitri Shostakovich needed some time after Stalin’s death: He wrote the first harsh, devastating movements of his Tenth Symphony in the seclusion of his dacha on the Baltic Sea and completed this highly political work with an uncompromising final section in Moscow. In his ›Anthem‹, Davóne Tines, too, raises his voice against the racism and capitalist ideals of US society. Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings – as the musical embodiment of melancholy – opens a musical door to these still topical concerns.
