About the programme

This is a meeting of two giants: Anton Bruckner dedicated his Third Symphony to Richard Wagner, whose work he deeply admired. The first movement begins in a dark and mysterious manner, yet from the first measure, an irresistible pull arises from these depths, turning into an overwhelming musical event. In the process, Bruckner repeatedly quotes famous passages from Wagner’s operas, thereby paying artistic homage to the master. He could not have expressed his admiration more powerfully and magnificently.
