Give your Vote to DSO!

Dear Friends of the DSO!

The Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin has been nominated by the renowned British music magazine ‘Gramophone’ for the ‘Orchestra of the Year 2020’ award. The choice is carried out by an audience vote.

Voting is possible immediately at, and will end on Monday, 7 September at 8 am.

About the Award

This year, ‘Gramophone’ magazine is naming the ‘Orchestra of the Year’ for the third time. Besides the DSO Berlin, nine other orchestras have been nominated for the sought-after award: the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the Freiburger Barockorchester, the Orchestre National de Lille, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, musicaAeterna, the NHK Symphony Orchestra and the Philadelphia Orchestra. The vote will take place online with an audience vote on the magazine’s website. Voting begins on Friday, 12 June at 1 pm and ends on Monday, 7 September at 8 am. The winner will then be announced on 6 October at the ‘Gramophone Classical Music Awards’.

The nomination of the DSO Berlin is the outcome of outstanding coverage of the orchestra and its Music Director Robin Ticciati by the editors and reviewers of ‘Gramophone’ magazine in the past twelve months. Thus, the orchestra’s most recent CD releases – including the recordings released by LINN Records of Bruckner’s Symphony No. 6 and of Debussy’s Nocturnes and Duruflé’s Requiem – all received their highest ratings. In addition, the recording of Beethoven’s and Sibelius’s violin concerti with Christian Tetzlaff as soloist (Ondine) was named CD of the month by ‘Gramophone’ and chosen as one of the 50 best Beethoven recordings..

Since 1977, the ‘Gramophone Classical Music Awards’ are among the most influential awards for recorded classical music around the world. ‘Gramophone’ magazine is presenting the ‘Orchestra of the Year’ award for the third year in a row. In 2018, the audience voted for the Seattle Symphony, and in 2019 the Hong Kong Philharmonic emerged as the winner.
