Live concert in the Berlin Philharmonie on 7 November 2020

On Saturday, 7 November 2020, the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin welcomed Sir Simon Rattle back to his podium – 43 years after his DSO and thus Berlin debut as part of the 'RIAS presents' series. The Briton conducted Gustav Mahler’s 'Das Lied von der Erde' in a chamber music version, with mezzo-soprano Magdalena Kožená and tenor Andrew Staples as vocal soloists. At the beginning of the concert, DSO Music Director Robin Ticciati conducted a dramaturgically as well as performatively ritualized program ranging from Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Tallis Fantasia and Henry Purcell’s March from his Music for the Funeral of Queen Mary II to the memorial piece 'Cortege' by contemporary composer Sir Harrison Birtwistle. The concert without audience was broadcasted live from the Berlin Philharmonie and is still available as a video stream on the ➔ DSO website as well as on the orchestra’s ➔ YouTube channel and ➔ Facebook page.
