For scheduling reasons, Bruckner's Ninth Symphony is not performed with a completed finale, as originally announced, but in the three-movement version.

About the programme

Anton Bruckner goes all out: In 1887, he dedicated his Ninth Symphony to none other than the »good Lord« himself. This music sounds majestic as ever, humble and powerful. He moreover had some practice in pomp: He wrote his two previous symphonies in reverence for the rulers King Ludwig II of Bavaria and Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria. However, he saved the »majesty of all majesties« for nothing less than the now legendary Ninth. Camille Pépin’s Violin Concerto is a work that was written 120 years after Bruckner’s Ninth.
